Tertullian Regarding Marriage

I'm in church history right now at Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS). In one of my last lectures the professor rattled off a pretty significant quote of Tertullian regarding marriage. Check this out.

"What a union of two believers…one hope, one vow, one discipline, one worship. They are brother and sister, two servants, one spirit, and one flesh. They pray together, fast together, instruct, exhort, and support eachother. They go to the church of God, to the table of the Lord. They share eachothers tribulation, persecution, and revival. They go visit the sick and give to the poor."

It's too bad he held celibacy in higher regard though...because the picture he paints of marriage is a beautiful one! Wow!
