Bad Theology Alert: Flyer

I blurred out the phone #...but not the website...but anyhow, this bad theology alert was torn out of the local [Des Moines] paper. A friend gave this to me on Sunday.

As a church following Christ, hence Christian church, how do they reconcile this add with John 14:6?
"Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. [ESV]"

That is disappointing to see. Wellspring is an American Baptist Church, which in Iowa is fairly moderate if not conservative. American Baptist Churches in the Northeast do have a leftward bent though.

From the American Baptist's own website:

"American Baptists worship the triune God of the Bible, who is eternally one God in three persons. This one, true God is most clearly revealed to us in the incarnate Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

American Baptists proclaim the Good News of the atoning death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, knowing that salvation (forgiveness of sins, release from guilt and condemnation, reconciliation with God) and eternal life are granted in grace to all who trust Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. This Gospel is the central message of the Bible.

American Baptists believe that the Bible, composed of the Old and New Testaments, is the divinely inspired Word of God, the final written authority and trustworthy for faith and practice. It is to be interpreted responsibly under the guidance of the Holy Spirit within the community of faith. The primary purpose of the Bible is to point to Jesus Christ, the living Lord of the Church."

I am currently helping an American Baptist Church in Pella with their youth on an interim basis. This concerns me. I hope that they are no longer affiliated with the ABC.

Just checked out their website. They are and they really, really distort the ABC position. The section I quoted in the last post is from their latest doctrinal statement.

Sad. Well, I guess I am glad that I am E-Free and that we haven't seen this type of heresy in our denomination. The church I am helping out with certainly would not agree with Wellspring.
